Restoration

Restoration work is a continuing process. In June 2000, Harvey was drydocked at the yard of Caddell Drydock & Repair Co. on Staten Island. This was the first drydocking since 1983. She was found to be in remarkably good condition.

Her hull was cleaned and received new protective coatings. Her propellers were renewed and her running gear overhauled.

Still, showing the effects of years of deferred maintenace her hull required some replating.

She emerged a newer and better vessel and soon after leaving the drydock has attained speeds she had not reached in years.

Restoration on Harvey is not always as dramatic as her recent drydock overhaul.

To maintain her in good working condition owners, crew, and volunteers all help in keeping Harvey ship-shape.

Her engineering plant is a very complex set of systems. Harvey's engineers have overhauled every piece of machinery from stem to stern.

Less technical tasks such as painting and keeping away the rust are also vital to keeping her serviceable.
